Do MD/PhD students report expected PhD stipend to OSAP?

Yes – MD/PhD students should report their expected stipend to OSAP under “Scholarships/Bursaries/Awards” since it will be received during this academic year.  

Does the Faculty of Medicine offer any financial aid and support?

Yes. See our financial aid page for more information on the awards, scholarships, grants and bursaries available. 

When do I receive the second portion of my funding?

Generally, OSAP and other government aid are not released all at once. Some is released when you register and begin classes and the rest is released at the start of your second term in January. 

When will the applications for the Temerty Faculty of Medicine Financial Aid Grant funding become available?

TFOM Grant applications will become available in August and all admitted students will receive a link to the grant application. Please be on the look out in the upcoming weeks.

Where can I get a confirmation of enrolment/or letter of good standing to provide to the Bank for Line of Credit Applications?

Confirmation of your enrolment/letter of good standing required during Line of Credit Applications are administered through the Registrar’s office. If you require this letter to be completed, please submit a Request for Confirmation Form. Please note you will receive your letter within four business days as long as you have met all your registration requirements. If you have any questions, please contact the registrar's office at : registrar.medicine@utoronto.ca 

Where can I obtain information about OSAP and government loans?

The application process may vary from province to province. Students must apply for loan assistance from their home province. 

The University of Toronto financial aid page provides links to all provincial and territorial student loan programs. 

Where can I process my out-of province documents and check the status of my out-of-province loan application?

To check your out-of-process loan application or submit out-of-province documents for processing send an email to can.oop.financialaid@utoronto.ca AND submit a ticket through the Out-of-Province portal for follow up. 

Why does my OSAP/ Provincial Loan state 'payment on hold until enrolment confirmed'?

Confirmation of enrolment for OSAP is done by Central Enrolment Services. If you have deferred your fees on ACORN, your account states 'registered' you are registered and do not have ''invited'' status, your enrolment should be confirmed by enrolment services automatically and payment should be released. If you have further questions, please email our in-house OSAP representatives if you are from Ontario, or our Out-of-Province Team, for non-Ontario domestic students.

Would the MD Admission Bursary affect my ability to receive support through OSAP?

The MD Admission bursary or Temerty Faculty of Medicine grant will not affect your ability to receive support through OSAP and you do not have to report it. Bursaries and grants are reported by the university on behalf of the student and are distributed to students due to financial need. They are different from scholarships, awards, and additional income.  When filling out your OSAP application, please ensure you do not include any financial need bursary or grant.
