Learning from people who are where you aspire to be is invaluable. There are numerous mentorship opportunities for our MD Students, where alumni are able to provide their insight into navigating the medical field. Mentorships can help you understand what different medical specialties entail, broaden your educational horizon, and build professional relationships in the medical community.

MD Mentorship Program mentorship

The MD Mentorship Program program runs from August to December. Mentees and mentors meet at least once in this period, but more meetings are encouraged if schedules allow. In the application process, you select the areas of medicine that you are most interested in learning about through your mentor. You also have the opportunity to provide a biography about yourself to help make your match the best fit for your individual goals. The program is open to all MD students - but we recommend signing up for it as early as your first year.

MD/PhD Mentorship Program

The MD/PhD Mentorship Program is similar to that of MD, but specific to MD/PhD students. All mentors are alumni from the MD/PhD program at U of T. The MD/PhD mentorship program runs throughout the entire academic year. Mentors and mentees meet at least 2-3 times per year, but it is encouraged to meet even more if schedules allow for it.

Diversity Mentorship Program

The Diversity Mentorship Program is a program created with the goal of connecting medical students from equity-seeking groups to faculty physician mentors who can assist with the student's growth and development. Equity seeking groups are identified as those who have been historically marginalized and/or underrepresented in medicine in Canada. Equity seeking groups may include Indigenous, racialized, LGBTQ2S, first in the family to attend university, differently abled, economically disadvantaged and/or from a minoritized faith group.
